We went to Seoul!
Updated: Apr 18, 2019
This past Thanksgiving holiday (2015), we visited Korea's capital city of Seoul for the first time. It was a trip that I decided we should take only a month before. I have been reluctant to post these videos due to their "home movie" production quality. When we booked this last-minute trip, I had no experience with camera equipment. The last time I used a video camera was when I was ten years old, playing with my parents' VHS camcorder. I decided a GoPro would be the easiest option. Despite a complete lack of experience, we headed for Seoul, determined to figure everything out on the fly.
While we did manage capture a lot of fun and interesting moments, the video is unsteady, poorly lit, and has bad audio. In the months since our trip, I've learned a lot about photography and videography with a DSLR camera. Though I still have a lot to learn, my production quality has improved significantly. Now I only use the GoPro in crowded spaces, and for at-the-table dining scenes.
Our trip to Seoul was pivotal for me. Just four weeks prior to our departure, I had an "emotional epiphany" that started me down the path of leaving my career behind and starting Destination Hungry. I decided to share these videos because they remind me to have fun and not get hung up on perfecting every detail. They are not up to my current standard, and I didn't spend too much time producing them. But I think they do illustrate the spirit of our trip and how much fun we had. The first segment shows our flight to Seoul and our first dinner in the city. I hope you enjoy them. I will publish more Seoul videos in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
